Dr. Sivaji Ganesan was known as one of the world’s
greatest actors and one of the most dominating figures
in the history of Indian Cinema. An inherently talented
actor, Dr. Sivaji Ganesan was well-known for his outstanding
ability to depict a variety of real life characters
ranging from a prince to a beggar, a revolutionist to
a dictator, and thief to a saint. His films gained tremendous
credibility and acceptance not just in India but the
world over due to his unsurpassed charisma, his powerful
dialogue delivery and ability to hold the attention
of the audience. Not only was he an icon in Indian cinema,
he was also an international figure renowned for his
contribution to art and culture. He was also known for
his quest to help the underprivileged that led him to
set up the Sivaji Prabhu Charities Trust in 1996 that
initiated various social responsibility initiatives.

recognition within India where he was conferred with
the honorary doctorate by the Annamalai University,
but also international accolades such as the ‘Chevalier’
title bestowed on him by the French Government.
Dr.Sivaji Ganesan comes from a humble
beginning. He grew up in a poor family watching local
plays and dramas from where he imbibed a passion for
acting which soon led him into joining one of the most
famous drama troupes of the time at a very young age.
It was during his stint here in 1946, that he became
extremely popular in the role of Chatrapathi Sivaji
in the stage play “Sivaji Kanda Indu Saamraajyam”
which got him the nickname Sivaji. He has acted in almost
300 movies in various languages in an acting career
that spanned over four decades.
