I.) Proof:
The blanks and the dies must be polished
to a full mirror like finish. The relief of the
dies is sandblasted to a matt finish to give it
the “frosted” look.
Minting is done manually (feeding of the blank
and unfeeding of the finished coin by hand), to
ensure maximum quality.
|
|
|
| |
Proof minting, takes place in an air-conditioned
CLEAN ROOM, with permanent control of humidity and to
avoid that dust settles on the delicate surface of the
blanks / coins, or dies.
|
|
| |
The dies must be inspected after each coin
or medal is minted. The dies must be removed from
the minting press for frequent repolishing usually
after 50-100 coins, depending on design and depth
of relief.
Proof coins with their flawless mirror finish
are considered to be the most valuable collectors
coins.

II.) Proof-Like:
The blanks and dies must not necessarily be polished
to a full mirror finish, slight flaws occur and are
acceptable.
Minting can be done automatically with continuous quality
control, the dies are usually repolished after 500-1,000
pcs. |
|
| |
 |
Proof-Like minting does not require
a CLEAN ROOM and air-conditioning.
Proof-Like coins are considered to be inferior
to full Proof Coins, but superior to regular B.U.
(brilliant uncirculated) coins, which is the normal
quality of freshly minted circulation cons.
